Dr. Emily Rónay Johnston, an Assistant Teaching Professor in Writing Studies, has been awarded a grant through the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and will be spending 2024-25 on a "New Directions Fellowship." The grant will take her "back to school" to study psychology and neuroscience at UC Berkeley and UC Davis to help her understand resilience and the human mind. Ultimately, she will channel this training into developing research on how the writing process can support student resilience.
